Our Public Policy Scholars Program enables students and health professionals to initiate research on substance abuse issues. Such research should impact on the health of the public in North Carolina. The program encourages exploration of effective approaches to Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) prevention and treatment. Our hope is each student Scholar, with the aid of a faculty mentor, will develop an earnest interest in ATOD policy research.

The primary goal of the Public Policy Scholars Program is to foster the development of scholars in ATOD policy research. Ideally, proposed research should deal with public health issues, education and training, and/or clinical applications including prevention and treatment. Each year the program will fund a small number of faculty/student teams to conduct ATOD policy related research through one of the colleges or universities in North Carolina. Grants benefit both students and faculty.
